Life Long Learning’s Co-Chairs

One of the many TBY membership benefits is the ability to participate in the Life-Long Learning (LLL) programs. The meetings are offered throughout the year, some in the evening and others as “brown-bag” luncheons. The meetings provide opportunities to participate in discussions about Judaism – religion, culture, history, customs, the arts. The sessions are led by Rabbi Fred Raskin. What a wonderful way to have questions about Judaism answered, even as new questions arise.

During the year 2017-18, there are two series of Life-long Learning opportunities—the Megillah track and a Discussion track.  Both series are open only to TBY congregants as a benefit of membership.

Megillah track: There are five megillot in our sacred writings; we will study four of them plus Maccabees, which is found in some Christian bibles, but not our own.  Why not? All sessions are from 10:00-11:30.

December 6: Maccabees

February 28: Esther, for Purim

March 21: Song of Songs

Discussion track: We cover a variety of different topics. This group usually meets on Wednesdays.

October 25, 7:00-8:30: How have shifts in American life and education impacted Jews?

November 29, 11:30-1:00: What is Israel’s recent “conversion bill” and why are we so angry?

January 31, 11:30-1:00: Tu B”Shvat Seder; Judaism & Environment. Led by Larry Kurlandsky

April 13, during Shabbat service: Andrew Nagorski will speak in commemoration of Yom HaShoah.
